Top 8 Best Wireless Speakers 2022 – Buying Guide

It’s a bit hard to choose the best wireless speakers these days. Their rapidly growing features has made it even harder for non-techy to make a pick.

If you want to listen to your favorite songs on loudspeakers in your small bedroom or balcony, there are a few low budget models out there that you can choose without ripping a hole in your pocket.

But if you’re into high-quality sound waves with extra bass, volume, and versatility, and aren’t afraid to spend a few hundred bucks for quality. Then you can opt for the other high-end speakers with better sound quality, battery life, and a plethora of features.

wireless speaker

Fortunately for you, I have written this article with both parties in mind. Whether it’s a soft bedside speaker, you need to glide you into dreamland slowly or a sound demon with a bass and volume output that can shake the earth from its very core – we’ve got you covered.

Just before we begin this best wireless speakers review, keep in mind that the holidays are only a few weeks away. It wouldn’t be a bad idea if your loved ones received one of these wireless speakers as a holiday gift. I bet “Jingle bells” would sound excellent in one of these.

Let’s begin.

01. Amazon Echo Studio – Best Smart Wireless Speaker

Best Smart Wireless Speaker

The first on my list is the new and improved amazon speaker, the “Amazon Echo Studio.” It is one of Amazon’s most significant, loudest, and most sophisticated Alexa speakers.

You’d probably be surprised to know that it features five active drivers that allow this little bad boy to produce Dolby Atmos-compatible surround sound in a single, feature voice-controlled package and an impressive stereo sound.

It has a massive advantage over the Apple HomePod and Google Home Max, not only because it has better sound processing and imaging, but it’s equally the same size and volume and costs less than the HomePod and Home Max.

It’s the perfect smart/wireless speaker for any home setting.

At first sight, you’ll notice that the Echo Studio is a bit bigger than most wireless speakers in this price range. Amazon Echo Studio has a round black cylinder with a measurement of 8.1 inches in height, 6.9 inches in width, and weighs approximately 7.7 pounds.

The sides of the Echo Studio are wrapped around by a fabric grille and has two cutouts in the front and back for the two bass ports

A black plastic ring can be found at the top of the Echo Studio that holds the far-field microphone array and small buttons for volume up/down, mic mute, and Alexa (the built-in assistant)

There’s also a micro USB port for service, a connector for the power adapter, and a 3.5mm combination auxiliary and optical port for connectivity.

Keep in mind that you’ll need a 3.5mm-to-TOLink adapter if you intend to use visuals.

The Amazon Echo Studio features the famous Alexa voice assistant, as expected of most Amazon speakers.

You can give commands to the speaker by simply saying “Alexa” or any other wake-up word you might have set. You can also ask about general information like sports, currency conversion, weather, make a call, play music, and even access other Alexa skills that range from asking for a goodnight lullaby to ordering pizza.

The sound quality is as a result of the five distinct drivers underneath the Echo Studio’s fabric; a 5.25-inch woofer, a one-inch tweeter, and three 2 inches mid-range drivers that blasts left, right, and forward.

The drivers have a maximum power of 330 watts, and all come together to create the 3D audio mixing and sound field with more precise imaging than most stereo speakers.

Although the Amazon Echo Studio can’t produce a flawless sound field that completely envelops you, it offers some impressive stereo imaging and forward-facing verticality that will give you the same impression of a pair of stereo speakers with additional drivers.

Amazon recently announced that the Echo speakers can now be wirelessly hooked up to a Fire TV device to create the perfect wireless setup, all controllable by the Alexa voice assistant.

  • Powerful sound
  • Alexa (assistant)
  • Easy home cinema setup

  • Cannot fully listen to 3D Ultra HD music without using Amazon Music HD

02. Sonos One (Gen 1) – Voice Controlled Smart Speaker

Sonos One

Sonos One (Gen 1) is the first smart speaker that didn’t have to choose between sacrificing being smart or retaining audio quality; it includes both.

The impressive speakers within the Sonos One are probably one of the best in the market. The high sound quality and volume in standalone and stereo speaker mode will leave you impressed and blown away.

The Sonos One has a straightforward and easy build, and it’s a short curved rectangle with a square top/base.

At the top of the Sonos One is a sleek touch-sensitive surface with a trio of volume icons that help navigate through your music list.

You can skip forward or backward through your playlist by swiping right or left on the sensitive surface, while gently tapping the center will either pause or play the music.

You can adjust the volume by tapping the left and right halves of the panel, just in case you’re conscious of the volume intensity.

At the top of the speaker, you’ve got an indicating LED coupled with a small light whose duty is to notify you whenever the microphone or voice control features are active.

All these external features come together to aid a powerful audio output from its pair of class-D amplifiers and a mid-woofer driver combo.

In addition to the navigation, Sonos installed Alexa (a voice control feature) along with six powerful microphones to help enhance its ability to pick and understand your voice.

Setting up Sonos one is a bit tricky thanks to the collaboration Sonos did with Amazon. It involves installing both the Sonos and Alexa apps, then setting up a Sonos and Amazon account in addition to any other music streaming services that you might intend to use with the speaker.

What makes users consider the Sonos one as the best wireless speaker for homes and indoor use is the fact that the device comes with a feature called “Trueplay Tuning.”

This feature requires you to walk around your room with your phone in hand as your speaker plays. As it plays, your phone automatically tunes the speaker and releases the best audio output to fill the entire room.

You can also choose to ignore this auto-tuning feature and manually adjust the sound quality and output yourself if you have a more specific preference.

It is only natural to expect nothing less than fantastic sounds from a speaker made by Sonos.

Sonos One (Gen 1) delivers the energy of simple Songs with an impressive amount of power for a speaker its size. Even Songs with multilayered instruments are no match for its class-D amplifiers and mid-woofer driver combo.

The Alexa voice control feature is an attractive bonus for music lovers. You can request Songs off Spotify with just your voice a remarkable improvement in comfort.

  • Simple build
  • Rich sound
  • Includes Alexa voice control

  • Doesn’t support Hi-Res Audio

03. Denon HEOS 1 – Waterproof Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

Best Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

The Denon HEOS 1 is one of the first to offer something different from a portable wireless speaker.

It comes with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities for streaming Songs from your local music playlist or any other music streaming services online.

The build screams quality, and the sound is quite similar to that of other devices at this price range, just like the Sonos Play:1. So, if a versatile streaming speaker with a rugged build is what you’re looking for, then the Denon HEOS 1 is the wireless speaker for you.

The Denon HEOS 1 is an 8 inches tall speaker with a unique futuristic build that looks like something out of star trek. It weighs a surprising 1.42 kg for a speaker with a measurement of 7.44 inches by 5.08 inches by 5.04 inches.

If you decide to add the optional Go Pack, it’ll add an extra inch to the height and 320g to the weight

On top of the device features a trio of buttons that are responsible for volume up, volume down, and mute

Unfortunately, you’ll have to use a separate tool to control or navigate through your playlist, unlike the Sonos one I reviewed earlier.

The Denon HEOS 1 isn’t very formidable without the optional go Pack. But if you ask me, I’d say the ability to go waterproof and stream via the Bluetooth connectivity option the go pack provides is worth the few extra dollars the pack costs.

Not to mention that the additional Go pack takes the HEOS 1 to heights that even the Sonos one can never reach.

Behind the device are a set on connectivity ports – an Ethernet input, an aux input, and a USB port. The USB port can either connect a USB power source, a smartphone, or the optional Bluetooth adapter.

Although the Denon HEOS 1 does not have a single button for navigation, the HEOS mobile app helps cancel out this problem. It also has a three-tab layout with rooms, music, and now playing.

You can also sync the device to popular music streaming apps like Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn (Internet radio), SiriusXM, SoundCloud, Tidal, and Rio.

Keep in mind that you’ll have to attach the device to your phone or smart device via the 3.5 mm connector to set up the speaker. After the setup, you can now play your favorite tunes via its wireless feature.

*Note: you can only set up the speaker with one device.

The HEOS 1 isn’t king when It comes to loudness or a powerful bass output. However, when it comes to evenly spacing instruments and vocals, the HEOS 1 does it naturally.

  • Rugged build
  • Decent audio quality
  • An easy-to-use app
  • The HEOS Go package offers battery power, splash proofing, and Bluetooth
  • Balanced audio output

  • Isn’t formidable without Go pack
  • The HEOS without the Go pack isn’t as compelling.
  • Setup for wireless requires a cable.
  • Doesn’t support high-res

04. Polk MagniFi – Mini Home Theater Surround Sound Bar

Polk MagniFi

If you’re bored of the typical rectangular wireless home speakers and want to try something less traditional and more innovative and unique, then the Polk MagniFi Mini’s flat bar-like build will appeal to you.

The soundbar comes with a set of discreetly small speakers that makes the MagniFi Mini both Flexible and affordable.

Its audio quality is perfect for watching movies, listening to music, and any other digital activity that requires audio. You can even pair up the device with Google cast and easily stream contents from your smartphone, or make the MagniFi Mini a part of an entire music setup.

The Polk MagniFi Mini is majorly built out of plastic and cloth and also has a relatively small size compared to most soundbars in the market. It has a width of approximately 13 inches wide and a negligible height of three inches.

In front of the device is a set of lights/indicators designed to inform you about volume and input selection (geek stuff).

You can comfortably sit the wireless speaker on a shelf or any custom-built wall mounts without any worries of it falling off – It’s flat and sturdy base can assure you of that.

Unfortunately, this soundbar doesn’t come with a tiny remote for navigation, but the marked buttons are perfect for getting the job done.

The Polk MagniFi Mini is a 2.1-channel soundbar with a powerful subwoofer that’s faced down towards a 6.5-inch driver and port.

It also includes two 12 mm tweeters and four 2.25-inch drivers. Two of these drivers are slightly facing the sides to create what Polk calls the “SDA sound.”

The MagniFi Mini does a good job when it comes to connectivity. It features an HDMI port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, optical, and a 3.5 mm jack. The HDMI port is mainly for hooking the device directly to a smart TV.

Keep in mind that your TV has to support ARC (Audio support channel) to use these features.

Polk opted to use the Google Cast on the MagniFi instead of the usual DTS’ wireless technology that comes with most of their speakers. This improvement is a welcomed alternative given the potential of products like Google Home and the chrome cast audio. You can also wirelessly connect it to your action cam too.

One added advantage for the MagniFi Mini is its three main sound modes, which are music, movies, and sports. The sports feature is the most unique because it intelligently distinguishes speech from other sounds, then amplifies it.

Most people won’t expect the MagniFi Mini to do very well in terms of sound output, but it does a surprisingly fantastic job for a speaker of that size and spec.

This little soundbar will deliver as expected Whether you decide to use it for movies or music. The tiny subs in the Mini can convey sounds at a relatively power volume and bass.

It’s a wireless home speaker worth mounting on your shelf.

  • Bigger sound than its size
  • It can fit into any living room setup.
  • Supports Google cast cast

  • The HDMI supports only  ARC enabled TVs

05. Naim Mu-So QB – Best Sounding Wireless Speakers

Best Sounding Wireless Speakers

There’s a probability that you might not have heard of Naim’s Mu-So Qb, which is a speaker with a stylish design and a phenomenal sound output that’s packaged in a unique cube-like design.

The Naim Mu-So QB is an excellent excuse for a Bluetooth speaker, unlike its predecessor (Mu-So), which had a good set of speakers but was eventually just a massive waste of space and money.

The Naim Mu-So Qb has a Measurement of 210 mm in width, and  218 in height, which is a bit bigger than a lot of Bluetooth speakers out there.

Although the Mu-So Qb might be a bit taller than its predecessor, the significant reduction in width makes it easier to mount it on a shelf or small table.

The extra height gives it an advantage over other speakers because it makes it easier to reach the navigation buttons at the top of the device

If you take a look behind the device, you’ll find a series of ports, including a power connector, an ethernet port, optical, and USB ports, with an analog port.

You can use the USB port to stream files locally from an external hard drive, and if by any chance you have a second Mu-So Qb speaker, you can wirelessly hook both of them together to play your song/audio.

The speaker supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options and can stream files with UPnP, aptX Bluetooth, and Apple airplay support.

It also supports a range of files from  MP3s to hi-res WAV, FLAC and AIFF tracks at 24-bit/192kHz.

Keep in mind that streaming these files via Wi-Fi will result in the quality of these tracks to drop down to 24-bit/48kHz (for reference, CD quality is 16-bit/44.1kHz).

Naim also included an android and IOS app that contains a range of features, including the ability to control and listen to iRadio on the speaker.

Once you’ve managed to set up the Mu-So Qb, everything else is a breeze.

You can decide to choose between all three mode playback on the device or switch between connected devices by simply tapping the top of the speaker.

Naim Mu-So QB did a fantastic job by squeezing in five drivers – a single woofer, two tweeters, and two mid-range woofer – into a speaker with such a small dimension.

This combination helps the speaker deliver its bass with a decent punch without overwhelming the entire sound output. It also does an excellent job of distinguishing each sound from Songs or movies without overlapping them like most speakers of this price range.

It’s important to mention that you can tweak the sound output via the mobile app if you wish.

  • A beautiful and steady build
  • Awesome sound quality
  • Strong wireless connectivity
  • Distinguishable sound output

  • Not enough navigation button on the top panel
  • Bulky setup process
  • It cannot wirelessly connect another speaker while wirelessly connected to a device.

06. Samsung HW MS650 – Best Wireless Speaker for TV

Best Wireless Speaker for TV

Samsung is no doubt, one of the top leaders in the tech industry at the moment, and the Samsung HW-MS650 Soundbar is Samsung’s way of proving its dominance to competitors in the portable wireless speaker market.

By collecting some of the most prominent minds in hi-fi, and establishing a connection with Dolby, Samsung created a soup of components which gave birth to the HW-MS650 – A flat and lengthy rectangular soundbar with an audio quality that’s bigger than its size.

The Samsung HW-MS650 is no doubt an eye-catching device with a seriously long, slender, and rectangular design.

It has a measurement of 1060 mm in length, and 78 mm in height with a non-reflective top plate and little curve at the edges of the speaker grille that gives it a plus mark in terms of design.

If you take a look behind the MS650, you’ll notice a series of connection ports, including a 4k-capable HDMI port, optical and auxiliary audio input, an output for an additional subwoofer, and a 2-way Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support.

You can stream with the HW-MS650 through its Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity option via the Samsung’s multi-room app (which features a range of services like Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, Amazon Music, TuneIn, and Pandora).

Although the Samsung HW-MS650 is a wireless home speaker, I have received confessions from users that the speaker delivers more defined audio quality when connected with the HDMI cable.

You can hook up the HW-MS650 with other wireless Samsung headphones and speakers, unlike some other devices in the market.

This feature helps create a completely wireless setup and gives you that real surround sound experience.

The Samsung HW MS650 uses a 3.0 channel (left, right, center), which is a startling combo of six woofers and three tweeters that are each powered by their single 20W amps.

It also contains the innovative “distortion canceling technology” that helps it achieve bass levels that most standard speakers shouldn’t be able to make.

Samsung also claims that the device can produce frequencies lower than 40 Hz, and has also announced that proper multi-channel DTS decoding is now available via a firmware update.

The device also supports a range of audio formats, including AAC, MP3, FLAC, WAV, OGG, and ALAC. So you won’t have to worry about having play errors while streaming from your laptop or smartphone.

The audio output of the MS650 is superb for a device with a three-channel system – especially if you select surround mode, which expands the height and width of the sound stage to create a dense ocean of high-end sound.

  • Exceptional clarity, scale, and bass.
  • Attractive and sturdy build.
  • It can stream from a plethora of services with the mobile app.
  • It also got an HDMI port.
  • Features the “distortion canceling technology.”

  • Might obstruct the signal receiver of TVs that sit very low on their stands.

07. Marshall Stanmore – Portable Bluetooth Player with 80w Output

Marshall Stanmore wireless speaker

Zound has always been a market leader in building guitar amps with excellent sound output. Now they’re here to dominate the music industry with their new and improved Marshall Stanmore wireless speaker.

Although most users enjoy using the Bluetooth feature more frequently, the device also includes Wi-Fi, which makes streaming easy on platforms like Airplay, Chromecast, and Spotify connect.

The Marshall Stanmore has a more nostalgic design compared to other speakers in the Marshall series. It boasts a chunky amp-like design that’ll make you feel like your back in the early  80s listening to guns n’ roses.

I feel the Marshall Stanmore is the speaker for you if you’re one with an eye for quality mixed with a little swagger.

The Marshall Stanmore’s design is purely retro, which was inspired by music boxes and amps from the late 90s. It is made entirely out of wood and covered in a black vinyl exactly like an amp.

When you take a look at the Stanmore, you’ll instantly notice the rounded corners, the flexible speaker grille with gold edging, and a few familiar retro brass knobs at the top.

If you look closely, you’ll see two tiny buttons for navigating between tracks, and a 3.5 mm auxiliary port for hooking the device to a phone or laptop, a button for switching between its multi-room or single-source mode.

Just in case you want to hook the device to a turntable, you’ll find a right and left channel RCA audio input meant just for that.

The Marshall Stanmore is also a beast of a speaker when compared to other wireless speakers on this list. It’s got a dimension of 350 X 185 X 185mm and weighs a whopping  4.7kg. So if you don’t intend to move the speaker around very often, the Stanmore is for you.

You might take a look at the Zound Marshall Stanmore and think it is just a massive pile of retro garbage. But when you take a good look at some of its internal features, you’ll find out that this device as all about connectivity.

Its equipped with the swift Bluetooth 4.2 with Wi-Fi as an additional option for connectivity. The device supports internet radio and is compatible with Chromecast, Spotify Connect, and Airplay, which can all be set up and configured in the Marshall Stanmore’s mobile app.

The device speaker has a total music output of 80 watts, which is a 50W class D amplifier for the woofer, and two Tweeters with a 15W class D amplifier. That’s a lot of noise.

If you’re an impatient lad and want to connect the Stanmore as it lands in your palms instantly, I’d advise you to use the Bluetooth option.

Flick the top dial to “Bluetooth mode,” connect your smart device to the speaker, and you’re on.

If the connection were successful, it would notify you with a classic guitar solo that lasts for a few milliseconds.

Setting up via Airplay will take a little longer compared to using Bluetooth. But after you’ve hooked up your device through the 2.5Ghz connection, you can access the mobile app and control the speaker, change the audio output level, or stream from various platforms like Spotify, I-Radio, or podcast.

The Zound Marshall Stanmore excels in the area of design and sound output; the 80 watts speakers bring out the best in most Songs with intense bass and also pay great attention to vocal quality too.

Fortunately for audiophiles, the speaker supports a multi-room setup. This means you can hook it up wirelessly with other available best wireless speakers, especially its siblings (Woburn and action).

  • Supports Bluetooth, Airplay, Chromecast, and Spotify connect. AirPlay, Chromecast, Bluetooth & Spotify Connect.
  • Attractive retro design.
  • Thunderous bass and audio output.

  • Very bulky and heavy
  • No dedicated remote control besides the mobile app

08. KEF LS50 – Wireless Powered Music System

KEF LS50 wireless speaker

The KEF LS50 might just the best and most powerful wireless speaker on this list.

Thanks to the folks at KEF for creating the best wireless speakers setup for both gaming and home entertainment. The device is super easy to set up and lets you play from any streaming source immediately after you take it out of the box.

Although the speaker isn’t cheap to come by, It offers a mind-blowing sound quality with an entertaining hologram-like visual, and a massive sound stage.

If you weigh the price vs. the value, you’ll find out that the KEF LS50 is quite the bargain.

The KEF LS50 has a weight of 6.12kg and a measurement of 420 mm X 198 mm X 192 mm, which makes them a beautiful pair of speakers that would make any desk look extra gorgeous.

You’ll find the KEF Uni-Q drivers sitting proudly in front of the speaker. This addition puts the tweeter in between the bass and the midrange woofer. This arrangement allows the LS50 to offer a 3D Soundstage irrespective of your position in the room.

You’ll also find a few illuminated touch controls at the top of the speaker when you turn it on. These touch controls are responsible for regulating power, Bluetooth, source, and volume.

But if you’re uncomfortable with controlling the speaker with the control keys, you can opt to use the included remote you’ll find within the box when it arrives.

The KEF LS50 is a sound demon of a speaker. It has two 230 watts, driver, with a DAC onboard for each channel, and is capable of handling up to 192 kHz and 24-bit sources.

Even if the audio isn’t as powerful as a standard home theatre, the LS50 Wireless should serve you for a very long time because of its reliable DAS setup.

The device also supports a 2.4 Ghz/5 GHz dual-band wireless network that can stream music from your home server. You’ve also got the mobile app to help you browse through your music playlist and control playback anytime you wish.

It was a bit depressing to find out that the LS50 supported neither Google cast nor Apple Airplay. However, if you prefer Spotify and tidal, you can control the speaker directly, which isn’t a lousy compensation at all & won’t make you deaf.

You can always stream from your local smart device via Bluetooth 4.0, which supports audio of CD quality.

In the end, the LS50 still sounds phenomenal despite the few minor setbacks.

It has an extremely neutral tonal balance that’s great for watching movies and listening to electronic music.

The mighty roar from the sub-woofers will appeal to all bass lovers when listening to their favorite music collection.

  • Perfect sound quality
  • A wide range of inputs
  • Beautiful design

  • It doesn’t support AirPlay or Google Chromecast.
